Best jobs

06Jan09

There are a few chuckles in this wsj story on the best and worst jobs.

Mathematician tops the list. Maybe I should’ve stuck with it after that undergrad degree.

Clearly the research wasn’t run by an economist since sociologist makes the top ten, at #8, while econ is down at #11. The difference might be accounted for by the complete lack of public awareness of sociology, since ‘in the public eye’ contributes negative stress points to the rating of a job. It’s all the in the eye of the beholder, I suppose, but some would rather do work that is in the public eye.

I’m still left wondering, though, why does it seem like half the top ten jobs (actuary, accountant, systems engineer) would make me want to stick a pencil in my eye?
